I told you about our new media center (which I affectionately refer to as Sister) here, and this was the state she was in:
Well, I have finally started her makeover. The Husband wanted me to paint her in Graphite, which is the same color that I painted her brother that is in foyer and the end table in the den. I am not one to be too matchy-matchy, so I chose to go crazy and painted her with Annie Sloan’s Emperor’s Silk!
Here she is ready to be painted. I taped off the drawer fronts before beginning.
Here she is after the first coat of paint.
I love how there is still some dark of the wood showing thru, and I didn’t want to lose that with the second coat (I could have stopped at one coat, but some areas needed a bit more.) Therefore, I watered down the second coat so it wouldn’t go on as thick. I merely dipped the tip of my brush in a cup of water and then dabbed off the excess water on a paper towel and then dipped my brush in the can of paint. This allows the paint to go on lighter (and also easier as sometimes multiple coats can start to get thick and gloppy).
Here she is after the second coat:
I opted not to distress her like I did her brother:
The original wood is a bit orangey, and I wasn’t sure how I would like that with the red. Therefore, I just applied a couple of coats of clear wax and then a coat of dark wax. And here she is today:
She is not accessorized as I wait four weeks before putting anything on my painted pieces. Also, I am going to spray paint her original pulls, but it has either been too cold or raining so I have not been able to do that yet. I will share pictures once she is completely put back together.
