Last week I showed you the fabric covered memo board I made for my niece, and I mentioned that I was giving her boring lamp shade a makeover.
Well, here it is today – isn’t it fabulous?!?
This was a very easy project that only took a couple hours to complete. First, start with a plain lamp shade (a drum shade will make this even easier – this shade is slightly tapered, so it made applying the ribbon a bit challenging).
I placed painter’s tape at the top and bottom of the shade on the opposite side of the seam to help me center the monogram. Then decide the size monogram you want and cut it on your Silhouette (if you don’t have a Silhouette, you can order vinyl monograms on Etsy).
Then apply your monogram to the shade.
You can stop here, or continue by adding the ribbon trim to the top and bottom.
To add the trim, I used fabric glue after I applied Fray Check to the ends of the ribbon so they would not unravel.
Simply start at the seam of the shade and work your way around applying glue to a small section of ribbon at a time. You can use painters tape to help hold the ribbon until the glue is completely dry.
And now you have a custom monogrammed lamp shade!
